Project Idea

The aim of the exhibition “Darum Raumplanung – Penser le territoire – Idea spazio territorio – Spatial Planning: Here’s Why” is to illustrate the basic fundamental relationship between settlement development, mobility, construction and maintenance of infrastructure, consumption of resources, landscape management, as well as protection of living space against natural hazards. The exhibition aims to provide you with insight into the functionality of spatial development and, moreover, provoke debate about our own spatial behaviour and initiate discussion concerning the possible future development of space in Switzerland. 

The exhibition consists of eight audio-visual stations. The first seven stations present current challenges in spatial development and show how spatial planning reacts to these challenges. By means of historical film footage, the eighth station presents an overview of the rapid changes to which our living environment is subject. If one can imagine the speed at which these changes will happen in the future, then it becomes clear just how many challenges we will be faced with in terms of sustainable development.
